What's Your Story?
What’s your Story?
This past Thursday there was a guy on the corner of Lee and Quarrier Streets in Charleston. He was a younger guy with long hair just sitting in a sports chair. As I got closer I could see he was holding a sign and immediately I thought he was panhandling. And of course I rushed to judgment.
The closer I got these were the words on his sign – “What’s your story?” I started heading toward him so I could talk but someone else got there first and I heard him explain he was traveling across the country and just wanted to talk to as many people as he could while he was traveling.
Since then I have been thinking about the question – “What’s your story?” I would say I don’t have a very exciting story. I haven’t done anything world changing – either good or bad. I haven’t written a book. I haven’t made headlines for my work. Most people wouldn’t know who I am. But does that really matter?
What matters is that my story is His story. And by “His story” I mean God’s. My story is tied up in Jesus. My story is tied up in God. My story is tied up in His church. My story is tied up in each of you. My story is my family. My story is God’s story.
I hope that is what I would have told that guy on the corner. And I hope I would have ask him how his story is tied to God.
So…what’s your story?
Look for God today in all things!

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:8-10 (NIV)
